Interview with Robert Milnes

Interview with Libertarian Presidential Candidate
Robert Milnes.
For more info you can go to his website www.robertmilnespresident2008.com

 1. Are you a member of the Libertarian Party? How
  long?
   Yes. About 3 years.

2.Do you have a campaign team and who is on it?
No, I do not have a
campaign team yet. There is a place to volunteer on my campaign website:
  www.robertmilnes4president2008.com

 3. Have you ever worked on another Libertarian
     campaign?
Have you helped petition to get a candidate
on the ballot? No, I regret to say, I have not been active in individual
campaigns. I have done other political activism e.g. I have petitioned in
Colorado pursuant to state law. e.g. Edward Teller actually proposed using
nuclear detonations to extract oil from oil shale. Fortunately, that was
      defeated.

4.If you could run on only one issue, what would it
     be?
It would be to try to ride "the perfect storm" of anti-encumbency in
America. I'd say" You want to throw the bums out, don't you? Well, the
democrats are just about the same as the republicans! You have a third
    alternative! The libertarian party!"

 5. Do you have a website?  Yes. www.robertmilnes.net

6 How do you plan on using the Internet?
   Actually I think the technology
has reached a point that a campaign could be entirely virtual! But the
voters want to see & hear a candidate in person, especially a presidential
candidate. So I will continue with my internet campaign until opportunities
for more direct and personal campaigning come up. Besides, that would be
better for me considering my disability. I have "severe reactive
   depression".

7.How much money do believe you can raise for this
campaign?
At this point I could only offer a ballpark"guesstimate" which
I would rather not do.

 8. What Percentage do plan to use on T.V. ads?
I would like to be able
to use a large percentage on TV ads. There is also YouTube and video email.

9 How do plan to make sure we are on the ballot in
every state? Is there a point where it might not make
sense not to be on every in state.
  The last presidential campaign had
almost 100% ballot access. We would like to get that 100%, which might
require a write in candidacy in 1 or 2 states. That might not be possible in
one, so for the next election that might be the best we can do.

10 What is you stand on the war in Iraq?
I have long ago written my
proposal for Iraq. Briefly we should set up negotiations with the 2 entities
involved directly, the present government such as it is and the "insurgents"
which is mostly the Baathists. The present government should be divided on
ethnic and general geographic lines. The Kurds mostly in the N.E. areas
including Kirkuk, are I believe the largest ethnic group without their own
nation. This is a longstanding international embarassment which the U.S. has
the opportunity and obligation, even if only moral, to rectify. The Shia
have a vested interest in the southern holy lands and marshlands. If the
Sunni/Baathists were to be held to strict conditions, including
internationally supervised elections, they should be put back in the
remaining area. The Baathist party is a very important & strong movement in
the Arab world. No wonder they resist their dispossession so vehemently.
This way their vote, whatever it would be, would apply to them and them
only. It was wrong for the U.S. to invade in the first place. Saddam was
contained and their problem. The oil should be equally processed and
distributed.U.S. troops should be immediately redeployed to
defensive positions at airfields. Helicopters, VTOL aircraft e.g. Ospreys,
only. No more convoys.

11.When do you plan on visiting Libertarian events
 outside your state?
Presently I plan to spend the summer of 2007 & 2008
in the Tahoe National Forest in California. I have found from previous
experience that this is good for my depression and also my physical
conditioning. I could campaign to & from there.

12 What is your goal in running for president?
 Realistically, the
customary getting the word out; public education about libertarianism. But
with the strong anti-encumbency and alliances with other parties, a very
slim victory is remotely possible.

13 What do you think of the Libertarian reform caucus?
I joined
recently. I'm convinced it is the best course of action for the party. In my
opinion Carl Milsted is a genius and should be running for president also. I
suggested this to him but have not had a reply.

14 What is the largest obstacle facing the LP going
forward and what solutions would you recommend?
 I think the largest
obstacle is the simple reality of numbers. We need to be much more
inclusive. The LNC has already suggested several solutions. I and some
others have suggested alliances with other parties, particularly the Greens;
as outlandish as that might seem-at first.

15 What makes you the best candidate in the race for
 the LP nomination?
I personally think Milsted would be the best
candidate. But even if he decides to run, I think I should continue to also.
Obviously Karen Kwiatkowski is the best candidate for vp. I am the best of
the declared candidates when one considers ALL factors. What seems at first
to be a negative resume can be seen as positive. I have the high I.Q.
(Mensan) of say, Phillies. I have personal experience with and healthy
skepticism of the criminal justice and mental health systems in the U.S.
Since certainly most if not all the candidates advocate decriminalization of
drugs, particularly medical marijuanna, I resent Kubby's apparent monopoly
of the drug decriminalization community's support. My stint in federal
prison was a result of very cunning colateral attack by the FBI to assail my
credibility and stigmatize me after years of political activism in Boulder,
Colorado. I plan to refile my motion pursuant to 28 USC Section 2255 and
Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure 32(d), withdrawal of guilty plea. I do
not drink or abuse drugs. I have "gravitas" as a consequence of depression &
present as serious & prudent, which I am and is necessary to voluntarily
take on so many responsibilities. I've tried to take care of myself over the
years so I'm in  good health and plan to publicize my medical records. I'm
not too old, not too young. All things considered is not easy but the
delegates should do that as best they can.

16 What is your stand on property rights?
I defer to the party platform.

17 What role should the federal government play in our
lives compared  to the state or local governments?
 They all, as well as
county government, have their place. Obviously the less intrusive the
federal government is in one's individual, private life, the better.

18 Do you support the fair tax?
I defer to the party platform.

19 What do you consider your greatest accomplishment
 in your life?
The fact that I've made it so far fairly intact.

 20. What Libertarian campaigns from the past have
impressed you the most? The ones that included a woman on the executive
ticket.
